The safari also takes you to Volcanoes national park to have the best experience with the endangered mountain gorillas, golden monkey trekking creating an absolute adventure with the Ibywacu cultural village visit to know their traditions and culture. Itinerary overview: Day 1: Pick up from Kigali and transfer to Nyungwe Forest national park Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking in Nyungwe forest national park Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes national park, visit of twin lakes Day 4: Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes national park Day 5: Golden monkey trekking, transfer to Kigali Detailed itinerary: Day 1: Pick up from Kigali and transfer to Nyungwe Forest national park After an early morning breakfast, driver guide picks you from Kigali and transfers you to Nyungwe forest national park. The scenic drive takes you southwards heading to the park; it’s normally a 5 hour drive with stunning views of the different surroundings and a visibility of a lake. Stopovers for lunch at Nyanza and easing, refreshments with some rest as you continue to the next destination. On arrival, you’re welcomed by the beautiful lush rainforest of Nyungwe and its beautiful scenery. Drive through to the lodge and have some rest as your preparing for the next day. Dinner at the lodge Accommodation: Nyungwe top view hotel; midrange Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking in Nyungwe forest national park After an early morning breakfast, your guide picks you up and takes you to the Uwinka headquarters for briefing about the dos and don’ts of Chimpanzee tracking. It takes 2-6 hours accompanied with your packed lunch, snacks, water and park guides who provide information, rangers and porters that assist in everything just in case. The chimpanzees always locate the trackers with their noise in their habitats. The trackers spend one hour in the presence of Chimpanzees while they are playing /swinging around the trees. The Chimpanzees jump from tree to tree at a very high speed while making noise, the trackers get a chance to view the chimpanzees eat and see how they behave in their natural habitats while taking care of their babies. Trackers will have photography at a free range making the experience interesting and memorable. After the tracking, the tourists will relax abit and organize for Canopy walk. The walk normally takes 2 hours with amazing and impressive sights. Sounds of different bird species and sighting of different reptiles and insects, the walk gives a spectacular view of Lake Kivu with its natural calmness and sighting of different bird species. Dinner at the lodge Accommodation: Nyungwe top view hotel, midrange Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes national park, visit of twin lakes Early morning breakfast is served, after the tourists are transferred to Volcanoes national park after checking out from then lodges. This scenic drive takes 5 hours; tourists get to see the different natural landscapes and different beautiful sceneries. On arrival, you check in at the lodges and have lunch and organize for a visit to the twin lakes, Ruhondo and Burera. The lakes are absolutely peaceful and relaxing with beautiful spectacular views of Volcanoes national park. Dinner at the lodge Accommodation: My Hill Eco lodge Day 4: Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes national park Breakfast will be served as early as 6:30am after which you will be led to the park headquarters where you will be briefed about the rules of gorilla trekking. After the briefing you will be provided with hiking sticks and under the leadership of park rangers and in groups of 8 you will begin your trek in search of the assigned gorilla group. This can take about 2 to 6 hours and upon locating them, you will be allowed 1 hour in their presence observing the magnificent creatures and taking photographs and videos. You are encouraged to carry packed lunch and enough water for this activity. After this you will return to the lodge and freshen up then have some rest. Dinner at the lodge Accommodation: My Hill Eco lodge Day5: Golden monkey trekking, transfer to Kigali An early morning breakfast will be served then you will head to the park headquarters for a briefing which will start at 7:30 am about what to expect and the expected code of conduct of golden monkey trekking. After the briefing, hiking sticks will be provided then you head out in groups with the ranger guides and park guides who are knowledgeable enough for golden monkey trekking. This will take about 2 to 4 hours and once you find the golden monkeys you are given 1 hour to be with them in their bamboo shelters feeding, playing and swinging around. Packed lunch is a must in case of re allocation of golden monkeys. After the trekking, travelers are transferred to Kigali.
