Itinerary Highlights.
Day 1: Entebbe– Kasese Arrival: Land at Entebbe Airport via a morning flight. Transfer: Journey via Fortportal with a delightful lunch at Garden Resteruant as you traverse along the shores of Lake Victoria. Evening: Arrive in Kasese and settle in at Margarita Hotel/Rwenzori Base Camp Guest House for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Nyakalengija (1,600m) to Nyabitaba Hut (2,652m) Briefing & Equipment: Start at the Rwenzori Mountains National Park HQ at Nyakalengija (1,646m) with an informative briefing from our expert guides. Trek: Hike through Bakonjo plantations and local villages, cross the Mahoma River, and traverse open bracken fern slopes and Podocarpus forest. Arrival: Reach Nyabitaba Hut with panoramic views of the Portal Peaks and Mount Kyniangoma. Wildlife: Keep an eye out for local monkeys and the elusive Rwenzori turacos.
Day 3: Nyabitaba Hut (2,650m) to John Matte Hut (3,414m) Descent & Ascent: Descend towards the Mubuku River then climb through a bamboo forest, culminating in a challenging boulder-hopping ascent along the north side of the river through a giant heather forest.
Day 4: John Matte Hut (3,414m) to Bujuku Hut (3,977m) Trek: Navigate from John Matte Hut to Bujuku Hut, encountering the infamous bogs and traversing around Bigo Bog and Lake Bujuku. Flora: Spot the unique 'everlasting flower' that clings to the peaks for decades.
Day 5: Bujuku Hut (3,900m) to Elena Hut (4,541m) Climb: Ascend through moss-draped groundsel vegetation towards Scott Elliot Pass (4,372m), then divert to Elena Hut for an overnight stay before the final summit attempt.
Day 6: Elena Glacier to Stanley Plateau & Beyond Glacial Traverse: Cross the Elena Glacier toward the Stanley Plateau. Tackle challenging terrain with the possible need for crampons, then journey from Elena Hut to Punta Margherita (5,109m) and back. Descent: Descend via Upper and Lower Kitandara lakes, ending at Kitandara Hut (4,023m). Options: From here, you may choose to continue climbing Mount Baker or Mount Luigi di Savoia for spectacular panoramic views.
Day 7: Kitandara Hut to Guy Yeoman Hut (3,261m) Scenic Trek: Climb to Fresh Field Pass (4,282m) through high alpine mossy glades. Descend through rocky, boggy areas with awe-inspiring views of Mounts Stanley, Baker, and Savoy. Arrival: Reach Guy Yeoman Hut, nestled in a valley rich with mountain vistas, vegetation, and flowing rivers.
Day 8: Guy Yeoman Hut to Nyabitaba Hut Descent: Experience a steep descent alongside the Mobuku River, passing striking rock shelters like Kichuchu, before rejoining the original route to Nyabitaba Hut.
Day 9: Nyabitaba to Nyakalengija Base Camp & Return Final Trek: Descend from Nyabitaba Hut to Nyakalengija Road Head (approx. 2 hours), transitioning from high altitude to a warm rainforest setting. Wildlife: Enjoy opportunities to spot tropical forest birds and playful monkeys along the descent.
Transfer: A car will pick you up to drive back to Entebbe or Kampala, with lunch provided en route—concluding your epic hiking safari.
